At Lex Initiative for Rights Advocacy and Development (LIRAD), our advocacy approach is comprehensive and rooted in empowering marginalised women while ensuring their voices are heard in legal, social, and policy spaces. We emphasise evidence-based advocacy aimed at driving systemic change and holding duty bearers accountable for upholding human rights.

A cornerstone of our advocacy is conducting thorough research and legal analysis. We identify gaps in policies, laws, and practices that negatively impact marginalised women, including LBQ women, women living with HIV, female sex workers, women who use drugs, and women with disabilities. By gathering data and insights from the lived experiences of these women, we are able to make informed, evidence-based recommendations that guide our advocacy efforts.

Strategic litigation plays a crucial role in our work. LIRAD leverages the legal system to challenge discriminatory laws and advocate for reforms that align with international human rights standards. Our legal team takes on pro bono cases to support women whose rights have been violated, working toward establishing legal precedents that protect broader communities of marginalised women.

Capacity building and legal education are essential components of our advocacy strategy. We conduct training sessions and legal clinics that equip marginalised women and their allies with knowledge about their rights and the legal processes available to them. Additionally, we focus on training female lawyers and paralegals, ensuring they are prepared to offer gender-responsive legal support.

Collaboration is central to our advocacy efforts. We actively build partnerships with like-minded organisations, coalitions, and networks, enhancing our ability to advocate for key issues such as access to justice, healthcare, social protection, and the prevention of gender-based violence. Through these alliances, we create a united front that amplifies our collective voice.

Engaging with duty bearers is another key focus for LIRAD. We regularly meet with policymakers, local authorities, and government institutions at both grassroots and national levels. Through dialogue forums, town hall meetings, and advocacy visits, we raise critical issues affecting marginalised women and hold decision-makers accountable for their commitments to human rights.

LIRAD also prioritises community-based advocacy, working directly with marginalised women to develop advocacy strategies that reflect their needs and priorities. We help organise communities to raise awareness about rights violations and barriers to accessing healthcare and justice, fostering a grassroots movement that challenges stigma and discrimination.

In addition to these efforts, LIRAD engages in creative advocacy through public campaigns and art. We use poetry, storytelling, and exhibitions to highlight the struggles and resilience of marginalised women, educating the public and breaking down harmful stereotypes. Through this holistic approach, LIRAD is driving progress toward a society where all women enjoy justice, equality, and dignity.
