At Lex Initiative for Rights Advocacy and Development (LIRAD), we recognize that true democracy and good governance cannot be fully realised without the active participation and protection of all members of society, particularly those who are marginalised. Our programs are designed to strengthen the democratic principles of inclusivity, equity, and justice by addressing the systemic barriers that prevent marginalised women from accessing their fundamental rights.

Through our legal education, advocacy, and strategic litigation efforts, we empower women who are often excluded from governance structures—LBQ women, women living with HIV, female sex workers, women who use drugs, and women living with disabilities. These women frequently face discrimination, social exclusion, and legal challenges that undermine their ability to participate meaningfully in society and benefit from democratic governance.

LIRAD’s programs promote good governance by holding institutions accountable for upholding the rights of marginalised women. We work to ensure that national and local governments are transparent and responsive to the needs of these women, advocating for policies and legal reforms that foster equality and non-discrimination. By equipping marginalised women with the tools to advocate for themselves, we contribute to building a society where governance is inclusive and accountable to all citizens.

We also understand that achieving sustainable development requires that marginalised women are not only beneficiaries of development efforts but also active participants. By amplifying their voices and ensuring their representation in decision-making spaces, our programs contribute to a governance system that reflects the diverse needs of all women, regardless of their background or identity.
